Course Introduction: This module bridges blueprint interpretation with shop-floor execution on CNC lathes and Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs). Learners gain practical capability in tooling selection, coordinate setting, G/M code navigation, and precision metrology.
Minimum Qualification Requirements: ITI (Machinist / Turner) or Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Tool and Die Making.
Certification & Offering: Certified by the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and offered by Nav Kshitij Foundation.
Course Outline
- Blueprint Reading & Material Technology: Interpreting technical drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) symbols, cutting tool insert mechanics, and blank inspection.
- Machine Setup & Coordinate Systems: CNC Lathe and VMC architecture, safe workholding (chucks, hydraulic vices, fixtures), work zeroes (G54–G59), and tool length/radius offset measurement.
- CNC Programming & Parameter Optimization: Reading ISO program blocks, canned cycles (drilling, tapping), spindle speed/feed rate optimization, and graphic dry-run simulations to prevent crashes.
- In-Process Metrology & Maintenance: Precision measuring using Vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial bore gauges; identifying chatter or dimensional drift; and completing daily preventive maintenance.
