Course Introduction: This intensive module trains technicians in core metal joining processes, encompassing Gas, Arc (SMAW), MIG/MAG, and TIG welding. Candidates build proficiency in reading weld symbols, controlling thermal distortion, optimizing machine parameters, and maintaining stringent weld quality.
Minimum Qualification Requirements: ITI (Welder / Fitter / Turner) or Diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering.
Certification & Offering: Certified by the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and offered by Nav Kshitij Foundation.
Course Outline
- Metallurgy & Pre-Welding Preparation: Material behavior under heat (carbon steels, stainless steel, aluminum), reading welding symbols, joint types (butt, lap, T-joint), surface cleaning, and root gap aligment.
- Gas Welding & Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW): Oxy-fuel safe cylinder handling, flame adjustment, electrode classifications (E6013, E7018), AC/DC power source setup, stringer/weave beads, and slag control.
- Advanced Metal Joining: MIG/MAG & TIG Operations: Shielding gas selection (Argon/CO2), wire feed and voltage tuning for MIG, high-frequency arc initiation, tungsten preparation, and manual filler rod feeding for precision TIG welding.
- Post-Welding Quality & Workplace Safety: Mechanical finishing, visual weld profile assessment, basic defect identification (porosity, undercuts, lack of fusion), and personal safety controls against UV and fumes.
